Redefining Success

By Pray Eucha.

The concept of success is commonly defined as the achievement of a goal or purpose. However, for a Christian, success can become a deviation from Godliness if it is defined in the same way as the world defines it.

The world often views success in materialistic terms, such as achieving high marks, securing a high-paying job, gaining promotions, acquiring valuable possessions, and earning fame.

However, a Christian's purpose in life cannot be limited to achieving worldly success with God's help. This perspective is contradictory to the lives of the apostles and the way Christ himself lived in this world. Many people may even abandon their faith when God does not grant them worldly success.

It is important to note that God is aware of our needs, desires, and wants. However, His purpose for our lives is not tied to acquiring material comforts. Instead, a Christian's ultimate purpose, aim, or goal should be to love God and allow Him to fulfill His purposes on earth.

Therefore, redefining success as allowing God to fulfill His will in our lives can help us avoid the trap of chasing after worldly things, which the world defines as success. This perspective aligns with Christian faith and allows us to focus on what truly matters in life.

Matthew 6: 19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
