WE ARE SENT

| By PKD Lee |

John 17:18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.

This was a statement Jesus made for all believers, not just for the apostles. This is made clear by John 17:20 which says, “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;” This means all of us.

We are sent with the same mission as Jesus was, and so all that Jesus said and did should apply to us too. One of the statements Jesus makes in John 6:38, is, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.”

The same should apply to us also since we are sent like Jesus. We are not here to do our will, but the will of the Father. I need to respond to that and say Yes, I am not here to do what I want but what God wants from me, to disciple people for the kingdom.

This is one response we need to make. But there are more.

Col 1:24 reads as, “I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church,”

This means that not only do we not do our will, but we also suffer for the sake of discipling others. We give up our comforts so that we can complete the sufferings of Jesus!! Jesus' suffering paid the penalty for our sins. Our sufferings take the message out to people and make them aware fo what Jesus has done for us. This ministry will involve sacrifice by our family and people close to us, and we sacrifice the time with them to minister to people.

Jesus said in Matt 11:28, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Since we have been sent like Jesus, we also need to be able to say the same thing to people who need help and assistance. Making such a call will mean intrusion into your privacy and time spent on doing the things you enjoy doing.

This is the call God gives when He says, "Whom shall I send, Who will go for us?

Are we willing, like Isaiah to say, "Here am I, send me"?
